CASE STUDY
Omya New Zealand upgrade to a higher capacity silo vent pulse jet dust collector
Omya New Zealand needed to upgrade their dust control system due to an increase in production. DUSTEX installed a new silo vent pulse jet dust collector that had a higher capacity, and was also easier and safer to service.
Background:
Omya New Zealand produces dry ground calcium carbonate products for industries such as construction, paper, paints, and many more. A list of everyday things that contain calcium carbonate can be fascinating reading.
The problem:
Dealing with dry calcium carbonate poses many dust control issues, and from time to time dust extraction equipment must be upgraded to keep pace with the demands of production requirements.
The solution:
In 2011, DUSTEX replaced a silo vent dust collector at Omya New Zealand’s Te Kuiti plant that had become undersized due to an increase in production.
A new silo vent pulse jet dust collector was installed that utilises pulse pleat filter elements, which allow the designer to reduce the equipment’s footprint.
That meant in this application, a higher capacity unit could be bolted directly to the existing silo spigot, saving on installation costs. The new design is also easier and safer to service because the filter elements are changed from the clean air side.
